Evan Jones is a contestant on Australian Survivor (2016)
High school teacher Evan loves his job and thinks it is the most rewarding profession in the world. A class clown, Evan says that he is out to prove that you don’t have to be the smartest or most athletic person to win Australian Survivor. He says: “My emotional intelligence combined with my ability to self deprecate in a humorous way will help me win.” As a Survivor superfan, Evan blogs about the US version and says his celebrity crush is Jeff Probst.
He says: “I love the show and have admired it from afar since its inception. This will likely be one of the most exciting and challenging experiences of my life.” Happily married, Evan knows leaving his wife behind will be the hardest part of the competition but he won’t be letting his fellow castaways know, “I will remove emotion and play the game hard. In life, my word means a hell of a lot. Out there, it means absolutely nothing in terms of being an honest person. I will use ‘my word’ at every turn if it solidifies trust with someone and happily go back on it if it suits me best.”

On day one Evan joined the red Aganoa tribe and immediately formed a bond with Lee Carseldine though he felt they were both part of different cliques within the tribe knowingly putting himself in the oddball clique with Des Quilty and Kristie Bennett. During this time he felt it necessary to hide his profession as a drama teacher from his tribe for fear of being disingenuous when it came to handling potential situations but relished the prospect of using his trade to behave in different ways with each person. Despite his questionable social game, Evan was decent in challenges and was frequently part of the "runners" groups.
Viewing Lee as his "big ticket item", Evan believed he was in a five-person alliance with Rohan MacLaren, Elena "El" Rowland and Phoebe Timmins though this was merely to keep Evan on a short leash as his strategy talk annoyed those around him and his involvement in the alliance was an attempt to make him feel part of a group to reduce such need to strategise. When Rohan and Phoebe returned from their quest he was distrustful of what they said to be true and retraced their steps, stumbling upon the clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol. Feeling betrayed, Evan parlayed his newfound information to El but before he could tell Lee, Rohan told him he had found the clue at the previous reward challenge and wanted to find it first before letting everyone else know. Feeling as though Aganoa will continuously lose challenges, Evan began to look for the idol to no avail and when his tribe lost the immunity challenge the focus on targets moved to liability in challenges. Feeling safe under the de facto leadership of Lee who pushed for Katherine "Kat" Dumont to be voted out he was unaware that Phoebe convinced El and Rohan to turn against voting Kat and onto Evan. At Tribal Council, Evan ignored Kat's warnings of him not being part of the core group only to be blindsided in a 5-2 decision becoming the third castaway to leave Australian Survivor (2016). Before leaving the game, he told Rohan to play the idol next time and believed that Lee and El will regret turning the vote (unaware Lee did not sway from the plan)
