Kym Johnson is a contestant from Celebrity Survivor Australia.

Kym was under-prepared entering the game, assuming that they would be supplied with tents and drinking water. Despite the arrival of good friend Justin Melvey, she struggled to adjust to camp life. After Moso lost the first Immunity Challenge, Kym became the first person voted out of the season.

Having partnered celebrities in three seasons of hit series Dancing With The Stars, Kym Johnson is one of Australia's best known dancers.

She is not however, renowned for her love of roughing it.

"The closest I've been to camping was in mum and dad's backyard when I was probably eight-years-old," she laughs. "I think I lasted an hour and went back inside."

Dancing since the age of two, Kym trained in ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance as well as acrobatics, but now specialises in ballroom. In 1998, her and then partner Tomas Atkocevicius came second at the Australian Dancesport Championships in the Open Amateur Modern Ballroom.

Kym also toured the world with Burn The Floor and then the US and Japan with Sydney's New Generation. Other career highlights include dancing at the Blade Runner launch, Elton John's 50th birthday party and appearing in the hit movie Strictly Ballroom. She also recently set up her own dance group.

Kym feels Celebrity Survivor is the first thing she has actually done entirely on her own.

"Everything I've done I've always had a dance partner – always," she says. "I've always had someone with me – even in my profession of ballroom dancing, you have a partner. So this is probably one of the first things I've done completely on my own."

"I'm known obviously for Dancing With The Stars, which involves being in beautiful costumes and having my hair and make-up done," she says. "But then I just thought, ‘I'm used to taking somebody out of their comfort zone and into my world' – as I did with three celebrities – so I thought it could be good to take myself out of my comfort zone and challenge myself."

Despite admitting her naivety about the outdoors, Kym, 29, was determined not to arrive in Vanuatu ill prepared. That's why she called Scouts Australia the week before she left.

"I asked if there was a meeting on in my area," she says. "They thought I must have had a son who wanted to join but I admitted that it was me who wanted to come. I just said I was going camping soon and would love some tips from the scout leaders. The little boys were so cute. They taught me things like how to make a lean-to, do a reef knot and tie stuff together. I'm going to have a few tricks up my sleeve. I like to be prepared. I am hoping there is going to be tents though. I'm concerned about sleeping on the ground."

Right from the moment the Moso tribe were marooned on the island, Kym began struggling with the elements, delivering many comments on how she thought they would be given more luxuries and at the very least food and water. Even with the arrival of good friend Justin Melvey to the tribe, Kym's enjoyment of the experience rapidly declined along with her health. Despite her strong showing on the Day 2 Reward Challenge, Moso's loss was the final straw for Kym, who had mentally checked out of the game by the next day. Moso lost the Immunity Challenge, and although Fiona Horne campaigned to vote out fellow tribemate Imogen Bailey for her poor performance in challenges, Kym requested that her tribe vote her out, casting a self-vote to leave unanimously 6-0 on Day 3.

Post-Survivor

• Kym has appeared in multiple seasons of the US version of Dancing with the Stars, including seasons 3-9, 11-16, 20, and most recently season 24.
• Kym married Croatian-Canadian business man and television personality Robert Herjavic on July 31, 2016.
  • On April 23, 2018, Kym and Robert welcomed twins, son Hudson Robert Herjavec and daughter Haven Mae Herjavec.

• Kym's luxury item was a Sheridan sheet.
• Kym is the second person in Australian Survivor history to cast a self vote, right behind Lucinda Allen-Rhodes from Australian Survivor (2002).
  • Kym will most likely be the last person to accomplish this feat because of the rule change starting in Australian Survivor (2016), as stated by Jonathan LaPaglia, the current host of the show.
